Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarships for his parents and commitment for the community. Selmon is the son from Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon. Both brought him up on the farm they owned in Eufala. Second, football was his favorite sport. He was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. The trio made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the leading lineman of the nation. The three seasons he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma finished 32-1-0 and won two national championships. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975, and was named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a bachelor's in the field of education. Fourth-year service in college Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. In addition, he began his career in business. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of America's most outstanding young men. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing a little over 256 pounds. He played for his school's team in 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 handed out the Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
